He picked out the pattern himself from this book after looking through all my afghan books! It was fun to make and my nephew is very happy with it. I made it for my nephew in blues and earth tones. The one afghan I made was called Golden Waves, which called for a four-color pattern of soft waves. (Only a few are a bit more complicated.)īecause you are working with two strands of yarn (either two of the same color or two different colors at the same time) and because you crochet with a large hook size.typically size N or P. The instructions are relatively simple, most fitting on just one page of the book. None call for one of the trendy premium yarns, which while fun to use, could be unavailable next year. Most patterns call for worsted weight yarn or worsted weight brushed acrylic yarn. The color pattern on the Blended Rainbow afghan is very clever. Some patterns even include weaved strands of yarn to form a plaid look. Some afghans are done as a whole cloth, others in squares or strips. For example, one of the patterns is worked up entirely of stripes of color in a simple net-like pattern (hdc, ch1, hdc, etc.). There is a great variety of afghan styles to choose from among the 52 (!) afghans: classic, bold, lacy, serene, intricate, simple, handsome, and sweet. The patterns also range from color work-type afghans, to beautiful, textured afghans, and some truly unique afghan ideas I haven't encountered in modern patterns. All the afghans are great looking and are nicely photographed. (I would love to try one of the cable afghans.) I sometimes enjoy just looking at the photos in the book. I have only made one afghan from it so far, but I have made swatches for a couple of other afghans I'm considering. I've had this book for over a year now and I am so glad it is in my collection. If I don't find it soon, I will gladly buy another one so I can keep it in my collection. Right now, I am hunting for it big time because I misplaced it during moving. I have made four or five different patterns from the book. Not stiff like I thought it would come out because of the multiple strands. These are thick and warm and still very flexible. Little did they know it was a quick and easy one for me to make!Īfter making my first pattern from the book, I don't care for one strand afghans. I have made four for gifts because they are so quick and inexpensive ($20 for the yarn) and the people who I gave them to absolutely loved them. This particular afghan can be whipped up in a week or less. I love it because you can use different colors, solids, variegated, and I have also done stripes. Probably one of the easiest ripple afghans I have ever seen to make. My favorite one in this book is called Serene Ripples. The afghans work up real quick and they are beautiful.
